TSBC circa 1976

In July of 1951 in Middletown, Ohio, with twelve charter members, Peoples Friendship Baptist Church was organized and incorporated under the leadership of Rev. Louis Smith. In April of 1956, Rev. Herbert Hart was called to pastor the church. Upon his recommendations, the church’s name was changed to “Tried Stone Baptist Church".

With a new direction and leader, the church began to prosper and grow. In the early 1960s, the city of Middletown decided that the building Tried Stone Baptist Church occupied on Garfield Street needed to be demolished because of “urban renewal.” TSBC purchased land at 621 Lafayette Avenue, where it is still located. On November 21, 1965, Rev. Herbert Hart and the Tried Stone Family marched from the former Garfield Street location to the new Lafayette Avenue location.

Today, Tried Stone is a strong and prosperous family dedicated to the building of the Kingdom of God, teaching, living, understanding God’s Word, and uplifting His people!
